Although UMM is an Islamic univeristy, religious background of the students is not the inhibiting factor. Therefore, UMM students are not only Muslim but there are also Hindus, Buddhist, Christian, and Catholic.
To support lecturing activities, UMM always struggles to improve its facilities of classrooms, laboratoriums, computer, internet and intranet access using fiber optic and hotspot zones. In addition, UMM has digital library with the collection of on-line journals, audio-visual references, and scientific references under the organization of Indonesian Digital Library Network (IDLN).
To support its financial capacity, UMM develops several profit centers expected to decrease the reliance on student tuition. The existing profit centers are UMM Press, UMM Bookstore, UMM Dome, UMM University Inn, and UMM Motorcycle Service Station.
